This program is taught by Ben Jenkins from the UW Extension program-- thank you!

Ben says:

Prior to 2020 we in the Land of Plenty had the luxury of believing that nothing would ever hamper our food security.  The introduction of one microscopic organism was enough to cause major hiccups in how food gets from the farm to the consumer.  The best way to make sure that we have a safe and continuous food supply is to grow it ourselves.  Growing it on our own can be an expensive venture if we don’t know what we are doing.  I hope that you will come to hear about how you as a gardener can grow your own sustainable, nutritious, healthy food and be a good environmental steward.  I will touch on the following areas of soil health, crop rotation, tillage, species selection, and cover crops.

Interested in growing your own food? Check out our free seed library! You'll also want to attend our free canning class on Wednesday, August 11th at 6pm.
